As a result of seeing amazing successes with MeRT, Dr. Awodele is proud to bring this breakthrough technology to the area by opening BrainCare Performance Center in Carlsbad. Additionally, because of his experience in his active duty with the United States Navy, Dr. Awodele has made it a priority to accept TriWest insurance for the treatment of Depression.
MeRT Treatment and TriWest Insurance
Dr. Awodele has brought a state-of-the-art mental health treatment called MeRT, or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy, to Carlsbad and the surrounding areas in California.
MeRT is a more sophisticated and tailored form of rTMS (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) that is both gentle and drug-free. It has shown some amazing results. * To learn more about this cutting-edge technology and how it can help you with your Depression, click here.
The equipment used in rTMS is FDA-cleared to treat Depression. While it is currently used “off-label” to treat PTSD, the patient’s symptoms can often overlap and MeRT can be used to treat both.
*results may vary and are not guaranteed
TriWest vs. TriCare Insurance
Some veterans are eligible for TriCare Insurance, however, others are not. You may not be eligible for TriCare, but you are likely eligible for VA Healthcare. If you’re eligible for VA Healthcare, then you have coverage with TriWest.
If you are a veteran who is currently getting your healthcare at your local VA hospital, you can request to come to our clinic for treatment if you have “Treatment Resistant Depression.” Please contact us for further guidance on this process.
Once your consult is approved, a representative will contact you from the hospital or from TriWest. They will schedule you with the “community care physician” that you would like to see. You should request and name our clinic, BrainCare Performance Center in Carlsbad, CA.
How it Works
TriWest is the VA’s third-party administrator for CCN (Community Care Network” Regions 4 and 5. These include the western part of the United States. According to the CCN, “the VA relies on the third-party administrators to develop and administer regional networks of high-performing, licensed, and contracted health care providers.”

We have seen first-hand the havoc that these types of conditions can wreak on quality of life. Our physicians understand that there is a need for effective care to properly treat mental health conditions. This is especially true for veterans.”
Dr. Awodele and Dr. Apides, both veterans, understand how military service can take a toll on you and your loved ones.
According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), 1 in 4 service members showed signs of a mental health condition. This was according to a 2014 study in Jama Psychiatry.
The two most common mental health conditions that affect veterans are Depression and PTSD. What’s worse is that the symptoms can overlap.
