Welcome to the BrainCare Performance Center of Carlsbad
BrainCare Carlsbad Medical Director
Oluseyi Awodele, M.D., M.S.
Dr. Awodele is a residency-trained and board-certified Occupational Medicine physician. Furthermore, he has over seven years of medical expertise in Occupational & Environmental Medicine, Aviation & Aerospace Medicine, and Preventive Medicine. He has also served as a U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon.
Dr. Awodele earned his undergraduate degree in Physiology & Neurobiology at the University of Connecticut, with a focus on Neuro-Physiology.
During this time at medical school, he participated in Traumatic Brain Injury research at Harvard Medical Institute and Walter Reed National Military Naval Medical Center. Specifically, he worked with soldiers returning from the Afghanistan and Iraq war fronts, using advanced methods of magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS). And in doing so, he identified biomarkers of brain biochemistry that could potentially distinguish between those soldiers suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and those suffering from a mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI).
Experience
Dr. Awodele earned his medical degree from Howard College of Medicine and completed a Transitional Year Internship at Naval Medical Center San Diego. Following this, he began his military operational tour.
During his time in the military, Dr. Awodele served as the U.S. Naval Flight Surgeon for Marine Light Attack Helicopter Squadron 169 (HMLA-169) and Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 764 (VMM-764). He also served with distinction as the Flight Surgeon for the Special Purpose Marine Corps Air Ground Task Force Pacific for the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit.
Then Dr. Awodele completed his residency in occupational medicine at the University of California, Irvine, where he also earned a Master of Science in Environmental Health Sciences (E.H.S) with a focus on toxicology.
In his own words…
I have been a military physician for most of my career. And I have seen a lot of functional marines and sailors with chronic fatigue, depression, anxiety, TBI, and PTSD who didn’t seek treatment because they felt physically strong or didn’t want to take medications due to their operational status. I have also witnessed close friends report exhaustion and near helplessness due to parenting their child with learning difficulties.
“Witnessing firsthand their transformation after receiving MeRT treatment made me a believer in its effectiveness.”
As a result of seeing these amazing successes with MeRT, Dr. Awodele is proud to bring this breakthrough technology to this area by opening BrainCare Carlsbad.

Meet Our BrainCare Carlsbad Neuro-Technician, Olivia Rafter
My name is Olivia Rafter, born and raised in California, and I am a Neuro-Technician at BrainCare Performance Center of Carlsbad. I am EMT-B certified, a Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician, and fluent in American Sign Language.
“Working in different fields of the medical community has always been an aspiration in my life, as I grew up watching family members struggle with the repercussions of severe mental health challenges. After working through the global pandemic, my awareness of addiction and the skyrocketing rates of overdoses led me to become a Registered Alcohol and Drug Technician. I hope to pursue a career in Addiction Medicine and further my education in addiction disorders. I truly enjoy the work that I perform, knowing that I can help others with their mental health in a non-invasive way.
